So You Think You Can Dance - Nigel and Sex

One nasty aspect of humanity that comes to light because of shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance is this uncanny need for attention. Most people are well-developed mentally enough that we get our attention from those around us. (Or online... errr... welll... hmmmm...) But these days people are clambering for attention in the most unlikely of places - the reality TV show audition process.

So You Think You Can Dance Premiers May 22

Finally! May 22nd on Fox!

So You Think You Can Dance really is my favorite tv 'reality' show. (Okay, it's a competition show and not a 'reality' show, but it seems that people in the 'biz' can't differentiate between the two.)

Why do I enjoy it so much? Two reasons - 1) the people who actually make it to the competition are talented, and 2) they actually do something and not just stand there and sing.

In my mind, American Idol is worthless. People stand and try to sing. (Or as Jimmy Kimmel says, it's karaoke night.) It's 15 minutes of fame for most, and only a few contestants are memorable. Plus, if you don't actually win, you're better off.

Dancing With The Stars is okay. But it does seem like the same show over and over.

America's Got Talent is also just okay. I like the fact that its a call-back to the Vaudeville and the variety show days of old. And having someone win who wasn't a dancer or a singer was definitely a plus - I'm referring to Terry Fator, the ventriloquist of course!

But So You Think You Can Dance is different. It's kids (young adults) who have talent and actually do something of their own on the stage. They don't rehash (and murder) old songs; they work with a professional so brings a unique product to the viewers.

And let's face it, any of us can try to sing; how many of us can really dance like what we see on the show?

So You Think You Can Dance 2007 Finale Winner

Sabra won.

Cat really should find a new wardrobe person. As soon as she appeared on the tv screen, I thought she looked like an ostrich.

The Cat/Nigel dance, well, I thought I was having a Monty Python Flashback moment.

It was actually a good show.

So You Think You Can Dance Finale Tonight

we're mere hours away from the finale of So You Think You Can Dance. What bugs me most is that it's a two hour show to crown the winner, but that only takes, oh, ten minutes. The rest of the show is, for me, just filler.

I'm expecting a great opening dance number, then.... what? A special guest, a retrospective? Past dancers of the season show up?

Then at 9:58pm Cat will announce that the winner is...

I don't know. I'm thinking it will be Sabra, but it really could be anyone.

Guess I have to tune in before the 10pm news to find out.

The SYTYCD Shocker

I think most of America (those that watched So You Think You Can Dance tonight) were just as shocked as Neil was when Cat announced that he made it to the top four.

And that look on his face was priceless!

While I like Neil, I think that Pasha would have been a better choice for the finale. But I have a feeling that this year Sabra is going to win.

Neil or Dominic going home tonight? SYTYCD 8-1&2

After the August 1st show, I think Neil is heading home. Which is a shame, since I like him. I'm sure Danny will be in the top 2 (fitting, since his bro Travis was last year, and I preferred Travis to Benji.) I'm pretty sure the judges are trying to get a woman to win this year. And I'm sure one will. The women have a lot of talent.

So tonight I'm predicting Neil heading home for the guys. (But it could just as well be Dominic.) For the girls, probably Lauren.

(And that was a great Mia Michaels routine last night.)

I'm just not into So You Think You Can Dance

For some reason, I just can't get into So You Think You Can Dance this year. I watched this weeks first round of eliminations, and nothing really stood out. In fact, few of the dancers stood out to me. (Maybe it's because I can't really get into anything - my mind is all over the place.) Perhaps it's just too early in the season. I think once they knock down a few more, I can get into it more.

Wednesday, I noticed that Neil (I think it was Neil, tall blond guy) was wearing a blue shirt and dark tan shorts - reminded me of something Travis wore last year.

Final So You Think You Can Dance Thoughts - Benji Won

For the 2007 Winner click here.

Like I said before, Benji would probably win.

And he did.

Wasn't much of a suprise for me. Not the outcome I'd have liked, but I can live with it.

After all, from my side of the TV, it's just entertainment.

Soul

So that last post wasn't my last thought on this. Smiling

Just posted a comment to Krista about the difference I feel between Travis and Benji.

Benji personality is fun, energetic, and flamboyant. He's a showman. A show-off.

Travis is soul. He feels. He connects. He's emotional.

Travis or Benji? Last So You Think You Can Dance Thoughts

It's less than 12 hours until the finale of So You Think You Can Dance, and I'm still pulling for Travis. It's not that the others are bad; they really are quite good. Tough choice, really.

One of the things I did with American Idol as the show was wrapping up its season was, on the result show night, do a Technorati search for the winners before it aired here. One of the nice things about living on the West Coast is that TV is designed for the East Coast viewers, even though most of it is produced and filmed live on the West Coast.
