Kanye West is an Idiot Redux

I've already written on how I think Kanye West is an idiot. Now it's time for part two - Kanye attacking a paparazi's camera. In an airport. On 9/11.

What an idiot.

Battlestar Galactica's All Along the Watchtower

So who do you think the final Cylon is? Comment below!

Apparently the Bob Dylan song that the four Cylons hear is "All Along the Watchtower" - you can read the lyrics here.

This begs the question - is the fifth and final Cylon alluded to in the lyrics?

Ronald D. Moore has said that the final Cylon is someone we know, but not one of the major characters. So that leaves out people like Starbuck and Lee and Baltar.

Yet I keep thinking that the song does refer to Baltar.

This Is My Life by Phil Vassar

I heard this song today (minus the first verse) and got a little pissed. On my first listen it sounded like one of those "my beliefs are better than your belief" songs we often hear on country radio. But as I looked over the lyrics I noticed that it wasn't really one of those songs, but rather an anti-Congress song.

These Streets by Paolo Nutini

"New Shoes" was Paolo Nutini's first US single. It's a nice, upbeat song that served as a good introduction to this singer/songwriter from Scotland.

The songs themselves are mature, but not in the expletive-as-every-other-word way. Mature as in subject and sound. Love, loss, longing. I don't know why, but for some reason I think of him as a modern day Bob Dylan. Since he wrote the songs he sings, he gives us a piece of himself, his life, on each track.

Facing Future by Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

facing futureYou may have heard of Israel Kamakawiwo`ole, who is probably better known as Iz. The song he's best known for is the "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" medley.

Yes, that guy.

The late Iz was a Hawaiian singer who was proud of his heritage and sang songs of his home. Everything about him was Hawaiian. And his album "Facing Future" seems to be a great showcase of that.

Thoughts on the 2007 ACMs

I've updated this page with the winners. I thought I did pretty good in the major male/female categories. George Strait was a big surprise for me, getting song of the year and single of the year. Way to go, George!

I also have to admit that Brad Paisley surprised me as the Top Male Vocalist. Honestly, he's not that enjoyable to listen to anymore. (I can't stand "Ticks.") A few years ago, this would be an appropriate win for him, but not this year. (Sorry, Brad. I guess after Celebrity, it's downhill from there...)

Sara Evans Tonight

So Sara Evans danced well tonight on Dancing with the Celebrities Stars. I should have know that. I thought she could have been a little more sultry and less reserved (I guess that's what you do when your husband is a Republican elected official.)

I was starting to think that Sara was like those Star Trek movies. (Yeah, seriously, I thought that.) The Star Trek movies, at least the first half dozen (I get them confused after that... like, did the Borg time travel movie come before the Data in the hay movie? That's the way I remember them. But not the order.)

13 Cassette Tapes I own

I recently went through yet another box, and this one turned out to be Cassette Tapes.

You know, cassettes. They came after 8-Tracts (sp?) and before CDs.

So I'm going to reach in and pull out 13 of them and tell you what they are! Feel free to leave a comment if you smiled at any of them. Or cringed. Or hated them all, or even had no idea who any of the artist's are!

  1. Amy Grant's Heart in Motion. You know this one, where she turned to pop music. Come on, admit it, you know "Baby Baby"!

Thoughts on the ACM Winners

(NOTE: This post is from 2006. For my thoughts on 2007, see this post.

Although it's a week late, here are my thoughts on the Association of Country Music award winners.

(Winners List and Nominees List)

Entertainer of the Year: Kenny Chesney

Where's the Frequency, Kenneth?

Hi. My name's David and I'm a recovering PackRat.

I've always had this problem with throwing things out; namely, I don't like it. Like all classic PackRats I rationalize and say that everything I have today I'll need in the future. That receipt from that store that went out of business five years ago will come in handy some day. (It would be funny if it wasn't true; found a receipt like that last week.)
