Habari Links

Mostly for my own reference (since I keep forgetting the sites) here is a list of sites for Habari the blogging software. (Currently in pre-alpha - use at your own risk.) (I'll post more about Habari later.) (Is this too many parenthetical expressions?) (Just wondering.)

FireFTP for Firefox

One of the problems I've had on my iMac is finding a decent FTP (file transfer protocol) program that runs on OS 10.2. (I can't upgrade to anything newer on this machine.)

Many of the FTP programs, at least the really good ones, are designed and coded for 10.4. I understand why it's that way, but it has left me out in the proverbial cold.

So I've done most of my FTPing on my Windows computer; only using my iMac for such tasks when I had to using cyberduck. Cyberduck works okay for uploading single files, but I've found batch uploading a pain.

filezilla, the easy and best ftp program for windows

http://filezilla.sourceforge.net

I'm amazed at how many windows users haven't heard of Filezilla. It's a great program for FTPing your stuff to you website. On my windows computer, there's nothing else I'd use. Highly recommended.

(I just wish there was a filezilla for Apple computers....)

eFiction

eFiction

from the site:
eFiction is a software program that enables users to run automated original or fanfiction archives on their websites. The program is PHP and MySQL database driven and is released as open-source software.

BlogCFC - Cold Fusion Blogging

BlogCFC link

I usually don't mention open source software that runs on anything but php (since that's what I have) but I'm making an exception today.

BlogCFC is a blog engine/simple cms that requires ColdFusion to run.

From the site: "BlogCFC is a ColdFusion blog. It is has been around for quite some time now and is in use by close to 100 blogs. (At last count there were 92 known blogs out there using it.) BlogCFC supports many of the most popular blogging features, including..." read more.

GIMPShop

I've heard of GIMP before; it's an open-source image editing piece of software akin to PhotoShop/Fireworks. I've never tried to use it, however, since, 1. it may have had a Linux requirement that I couldn't meet (meaning it required Linux, which I didn't have; that's right, I'm not that much of a geek) and 2. the source files weren't packaged in a way that I could use without ripping out hair, nails, etc.

It seems now that GIMPShop comes to the rescue.

Link to GIMPShop.net which states:

One Year With Ubuntu

Can you really go a year without Windows? (Microsoft Windows, I mean.)

daboss Is going to try. (The Link.)

From his site: "I am not a Windows hater. But faced with the prospect of shelling out the dough for Vista, I got curious - could I do everything I could in Windows with Open Source software? Find out as I try to go a year without Windows and embrace Ubuntu. As an added bonus, I will be documenting each step of my installation and configuration so you won't have to go searching the internet for solutions!"

Eclatis and JAF CMS - flat file alternatives

Eclatis and JAF CMS

The above two cms scripts are designed for smaller sites and use a flat-file system instead of a database. Not designed for blogging, but rather for business or organizations that only need a few pages up.

tagsize plugin for bbPress

Created a little plugin for bbPress that lets you change the size of the words in the tagcloud.

And that's all it does.

(And this is odd since not not even sure if I'm going to switch to bbPress. But it done and released.)

The text of it is here. It can also be downloaded here (zip file).
