Googlesoft? Google Chrome's Scary EULA terms

UPDATE: Google has changed its EULA and removed the section that I quoted below. Section 11 currently reads (in whole):

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

END UPDATE

I'd avoid Chrome for a while because, it seems, Google wants to own you. At least, in their new browser's Terms and Conditions page

Google Goes Chrome

So Google finally made it into the browser wars. The company that seems hell-bent on taking the world away from Microsoft (I guess I can't really complain about that) has released a beta version of Chrome. I have yet to check it out since it's only available for Windows and I rarely use my old dying Dell anymore. (I will say that the tabs in the screenshot look damn ugly.)

Chrome Features.

ZenPhoto 1.2 Released

ZenPhoto, my favorite open source stand-alone photo gallery, has released version 1.2. (Changelog here.)

Habari 0.5 released

The Habari project just released version 0.5 of its blogging software!

You can download Habari from this link or you can read more about the project here.

Adding "nofollow" tag to Drupal Comment URLs

I just enabled the "nofollow" tag on the website URLs commenters leave. Now, when Google announced "nofollow" as a way to deter spam, I knew it wasn't going to be effective at getting rid of the stuff. And I was right. Matt as WordPress, which jumped on the "nofollow" bandwagon with a lot of flag-waving and ticker-tape parades, had to create Akismit to help with comment spam.

If "nofollow" was effective, we wouldn't need all these alternatives. But we do.

FireFTP for Firefox 3 Released

FireFTP at Mozilla.org

FireFTP, the FTP program that I use on my Mac, has released version 0.99.1 that is compatible with Firefox 3. This release includes SFTP!

Yahoo! Domain Renewals Increase to $34.95/year?

First Microsoft tries to buy Yahoo!, now Yahoo! raises their domain renewal rates.

Important note: Beginning on July 1, 2008, Yahoo!'s annual domain renewal price increases to $34.95 per year.

If this is accurate would this be considered Highway Robbery? Or do they think their customers are fools? Can they really justify that large an increase? Or are they just being greedy and hope their customers don't Google for GoDaddy.com?

cybertheist

cybertheist: person believing in a higher order of being controls the internet.

For example, I believe that the Computer Gods have found favor in me again and granted me access to the internet from my Mac Mini.

All hail the cybergods!

ISP issues

Been having some ISP issues lately. I can't connect to my main connection on my computers, so I'm using my back-up Juno account on my Dell. And quess which computer all my work is on? That's right, my Apple.

pets8.org

just so you know, the people at pets8.org are nothing but spammers.

They posted four times about having a dog named Kitt. Then suddenly they posted the same thing but with a dog named Jazzie. (Which, incidently, I had a cat named Jazz.)
