Googlesoft? Google Chrome's Scary EULA terms

UPDATE: Google has changed its EULA and removed the section that I quoted below. Section 11 currently reads (in whole):

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

END UPDATE

I'd avoid Chrome for a while because, it seems, Google wants to own you. At least, in their new browser's Terms and Conditions page

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

I'm no lawyer, but that sounds pretty scary. Not only scary, but something Microsoft would do.

Google Goes Chrome

Tagged as:

So Google finally made it into the browser wars. The company that seems hell-bent on taking the world away from Microsoft (I guess I can't really complain about that) has released a beta version of Chrome. I have yet to check it out since it's only available for Windows and I rarely use my old dying Dell anymore. (I will say that the tabs in the screenshot look damn ugly.)

Chrome Features.

Google selling space for Gmail and Picasa

Tagged as:

2 Gigabytes not enough space for your Gmail needs? Fear not! Google will sell you more space! This is combined space for Gmail and Picasa and whatever else Google has. (Though it doesn't say anything about getting rid of the ads for paid users...

6 GB ($20.00 per year)
25 GB ($75.00 per year)
100 GB ($250.00 per year)
250 GB ($500.00 per year)

Me, I'm barely using any of my space there. 0.1 Gigabytes, actually.

If Google Built Robots...

With Google, you can do most anything computer related. You can get your email and write love poems; you can search the web, you can search your computer. You can look at your house, find a bar in the seedy part of town, and compose spreadsheets, all at the same time. You can build web pages (although I think their blogging mechanism sucks.) There's really not a lot of computer activities you can't do with Google.

So if Google ever decides to build a robot, my money is on the robot taking over the world.

Google Webmaster Central

Google Webmaster Central looks like a good resource.

From the site:
"Welcome to your one-stop shop for comprehensive info about how Google crawls and indexes websites. You can learn here how to ensure that your site is easily crawled and indexed and access tools that will enable you to diagnose crawling issues, study statistics on how your site is doing in our index, and tell us how you'd like your site to be crawled and indexed."
