bbPress released

From the bbPress development blog.

bbPress is the forum software created by the folks at wordpress and has been running the wordpress support forums for ages.

It's simple and fast and integrates with WordPress. It's not your standard phpBB type script though. It's topic-centric (focusing on the new topics, similar to Vanilla) instead of forum-centric (phpBB, etc.).

Worth checking out.

new demos at opensourcecms.com

Chanh from OpenSourceCMS.com (they 'head moderator' and go-to guy there) just added some systems to demo.

XennoBB

Is it just me, or are most forum scripts starting to look exactly alike? That's what I thought when I visited XennoBB's site this morning. I felt that I'd been there before. It looked like MyBB (but with a nicer looking default theme) or IceBB or Quicksilver Forum. Which all look like Invision Power Board and vBulletin.

MyBB turns 1.2

The developers at MyBB have finally released version 1.2 of the forum script.

I did an upgrade on a test site and it went smoothly. Everything seemed to work. Since I don't use any other mods, I don't have to worry about those not being compatible. Themes and templates, however, are a different problem. It'll take a few days before I can get around to re-theme my forum. I think I'll also finally develop my theme into a public version. (That should make at least one person happy smiley )

Wordpress Vanilla Integration

Mark from Lussumo.com, the creator of the Vanilla forum script, wrote a tutorial on integrating Vanilla with Wordpress.

Vanilla is a different kind of forum. It's what I call post-centric. Most forum scripts are topic-centric, where you're immediatly shown a list of categories. Vanilla just gives you the posts firsts. Great for small community sites.

Read about the integration here.
