Wasn't the 2008 Emmy broadcast just dreadful? The hosting was abysmal. Thankfully they got rid of the round set, but the addition of the five hosts did nothing to help the hosts. Maybe next year Ellen will be free and they can regain some of their greatness. (And here's a poll about this years hosts.)

(I will admit I did enjoy Jimmy Kimmel presenting the Oustanding Reality host to Jeff Probst - and making them wait until after the commercial. Poetic Justice in action!)

My predictions are notoriously wrong. I did manage to get a few right! The major upset for me was Hugh Laurie not winning for Outstanding Actor in a Drama - he really deserves it! But thanfully James Spader didn't win, so I can take some solace in the that.

The writing and directing - just as important as the acting. (Or more so, some may say. Some like writers and directors.)

I was just thinking that women in comedy have always had strong characters - even if they were just supporting their "man" women have been strong - from Lucy to Roseanne. And since Roseanne women have taken the forefront in many comedies - from 30 Rock to Samantha Who.

Admittedly, I'm not a fan of half-hour comedies in primetime (though I do enjoy reruns of M*A*S*H* from time-to-time) so a lead actor nomination for Pushing Daisies makes these categories a little more interesting for me.

The year of the strong woman. That's what the Lead Actress category is about.

Is Spader going to win again? While the answer is "probably" I hope that a certain doctor beats the soap-box-toting lawyer.
