A new planet (almost) next door?

Now this is just über-cool. Maybe one day America will fund its space program so we could get out there. (Or at least send little Beagles and such.) (But at the rate things are going now, China will probably get there first.)

Anyway, from the BBC:

Astronomers have found the most Earth-like planet outside our Solar System to date, a world which could have water running on its surface.

The planet orbits the faint star Gliese 581, which is 20.5 light-years away in the constellation Libra

Pluto's Been Demoted

And Micky and Donald are worried Smiling .

Really, I don't understand what all the flack is about. So the former planet Pluto is now a Dwarf Planet. Big Deal. So we now have only eight 'real' planets orbiting around the sun. (Probably used to be nine real if the asteroid belt was a 'real' planet.)

It's just a renaming. If you're into astrology and are worried about what happens to you since you were born under Pluto.... it's still there. It's just the scientific designation that's changed.
