Simi Sara and Dave Gerry - Miss ya!

Tagged as:

Living in North Western Washington I get to watch Canadian TV broadcasts and one of shows I watch is Breakfast Television. BT (as it's referred to) is a morning show like Today or Good Morning America but without the glitter. It's more of a local show rather than national. (Major cities in Canada have a Breakfast TV broadcast - Vancouver and Toronto, for example, each one hosted in their respective cities.)

As I lie in bed in the morning I flip through the channels to catch the weather, etc, and occasionally I'd stop on BT. Now Canadian news, weather and traffic really does nothing for me, and that's not why I watch this show. I watch it for the hosts Simi Sara and Dave Gerry.

Dave Gerry is the funny guy while Simi Sara plays the role of the 'straight man' (or straight woman). I like to think of them as the weird uncle who says inappropriate things at the wrong time and you aunt who tries to keep him in line. But fails. Together, the who make a great team that's fun to watch and chuckle at.

So for the past few weeks I'd turn on BT in the morning and find a couple other people sitting in Uncle Dave and Aunt Simi's chairs. So I investigated a bit and found that Dave and Simi were fired from BT.

Apparently BT, which is owned by Rogers Media, hasn't been able to compete with Global's morning show (I don't get that channel.) So with low ratings they fired the two hosts, the director of Breakfast Television, and a half dozen others. And who did they replace the hosts with?

With two really bland personalities. They are so bland that I'd rather switch over to CBS's The Early Show than watch them on BT. And that's saying something. I can understand firing the director, but firing the hosts and replacing them with a text-book definition of boring just doesn't make sense.

Dave and Simi, you'll be missed from south of the border, too.

(A Canada.com article and an online petition to bring them back.)
