emmy2008 - Outstanding Drama, Comedy, Reality Series

Tagged as:

Below are the nominees and my thoughts on the categories of Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Comedy, and Outstanding Reality/ Reality Competition

Outstanding Drama Series

The Nominees are...
  • Boston Legal
  • Damages
  • Dexter
  • House
  • Lost
  • Mad Men

It was a pretty tough year for House and Lost - the first part of the season for both were pretty haphazard. But both rebounded splendidly giving us some of the best episodes for the series (The Constant for Lost and Wilson's Heart and House's Head for House.)

I've yet to watch Damages or Mad Men (they're both in my Netflix queue.) Boston Legal tends to be contrived at times. Dexter season 2 was pretty good.

Because Lost kept getting better, I'm giving it my pick, but I think Mad Men will probably win.

Outstanding Comedy Series

The Nominees are...
  • 30 Rock
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Entourage
  • The Office
  • Two And A Half Men

I'm not a fan of comedies, and of the five nominees, I haven't seen Curb Your Enthusiasm at all, and I've only seen a few Entourage - which I didn't care for at all.

Two and a Half Men doesn't do anything for me (like most of the CBS comedies) and I absolutely can't stand The Office. At all. I cringe when I think about it. So that makes 30 Rock my pick by default.

I'd much rather have had My Name is Earl on the list. (Earl at least has a point - Karma's a tough bitch.) Or Pushing Daisies. That's a show I can support.

Outstanding Reality-competition Program

The Nominees are...
  • American Idol
  • Dancing With The Stars
  • Project Runway
  • The Amazing Race
  • Top Chef

Survivor not on the list? Surely there must be some mistake!

Actually, I believe the mistake was putting American Idol on the list. Seriously, isn't it just getting old and stale? Call in Karaoke is what it is. Dancing with the Stars is at least classy (when Tom and that other host aren't being cheesy) and it gets my vote to win.

Outstanding Reality Program

The Nominees are...
  • Antiques Roadshow
  • Dirty Jobs
  • Extreme Makeover Home Edition
  • Intervention
  • Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List

Kathy Griffin? What the hell?

Dirty Jobs is just disgusting. And my personal pick for this. But I have a feeling that Extreme Makeover will over the voters (especially if they're the feel-good type voters.)

Lord, wouldn't you just like to see a funny show without swearing or violence? Something like the Simpsons, that your mother could watch with you and you'd not feel embarassed. Something clever _and_ clean.
