Lost "The Shape of Things to Come" April 24, 2008
Lost finally returns! And although it wasn't the best episode of the season, it was pretty good. And suprising that so many people died! I guess we have an inkling of why only 6 people made it off the island!
(And my main complaint was with the flashforwards; they just didn't flow too well with the action on the island.)
Here are some of my thoughts on the episode.
On the Beach: Jack and Kate - still a spark there, at least from Kate. And Jack's appendicitis - good thing there's another doctor on the island! And not the dead one that floated up on the beach.
I miss Desmond. Hope we get to see him again before the season ends!
Flashforward: Michael Emerson as Ben Linus deserves every award he's eligible for - and more! Near the end of the episode when he's following the man who killed Sayid's wife (and who also works for Widmore) Ben acts like a fish out of water. But when he goes in for the kill, he's a whole different person.
Ben going by the name Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes' nemesis.
And of course the question remains, how did Ben just magically appear in the Sahara Desert wearing a winter parka?
And how well did Ben and Widmore know each other before the series began? Ben can't kill Widmore? But he'll kill Penny? Is Desmond around to help her?
And Widmore lost the island.
(It's starting to feel like Season 5 will be about the future of the O6 and the flashbacks will all be on the island...)
Eggtown:
"We're all going to die!" I loved how they were playing Risk. "Australia's the key to the whole game." Wait a sec, didn't they all take off from Australia? Hmmmm..... misdirect here?
Claire's house blew up. With her in it. And she's fine. (Maybe she'll begin to hallucinate Charlie... so Dominic can come back!) But still, her house blew up with her in it! I know hiding in the bathtub during a tornado is supposed to help your chances of survival, but I didn't know that applied to rocket attacks, too.
But at least we know why only about 6 made it off the island; Widmore's security team killed them! And were these deaths the reason Hurley said that he shouldn't have gone with Locke?
Smoke Monster! At Ben's beck and call! So we know Ben can control them - did he send it out after Locke early in the series? And after the plane's captain? And did he send it to kill Mr. Eko because Eko was a threat to Ben?
And they killed Alex! I guess no one (save the Oceanic 6+1 or so) are really safe.
And will Jacob talk to Hurley? Does Hurley have more of a connection to the Island than Locke or Ben?
Overall, decent episode. But it looks like "the shape of things to come" looks pretty bleak!

My ideas about this episode
It's a flash-forward episode and while we don't find out how he got off the island (sorry, but his explanation was simply not convincing) we do learn how he recruits Sayid in his war against Widmore's organization.
