Siteground hosting - reviews, ethics and lies

Tagged as:

Came across this article about Siteground hosting and review sites.

It seems that Siteground has created a number of web host review sites and gave themselves top recommendations. And on their Drupal host page, they don't even link to other hosts. But one commonality? All of them have Siteground at the top of their list.

If you're thinking about hosting with them, remember this unethical and deceitful practice they're engaging in. And ask yourself if you can really trust them with your money? If they're being deceitful about this, what else will they do for a dollar?

They advertize the bandwidth they can't afford to provide, their customer service is average at best, their servers are usually pretty slow and often down, and if you seem like a customer that's really USING THE RESOURCES they offer, they won't hesitate to show you the door.

Nothing goood about it. Not to mention the best.

What a sleazy marketing tactic! I'd never go for such a webhost.

Sorry to say that I don't really care. Siteground.com is a wonderful hoster. I am not paid by them nor have any affiliation with them other than having my website with them. I reviewed a helluva lot of hosters and Siteground's offerings were much better than others. I think Siteground is peachy. I switched and am glad.

Creating websites to pimp your products and not being forthcoming about it is deceptive and unethical.

Is this something ethical? I think it degraded their product.

I am a current user of lunarpages. Several times a month I deal with FTP time outs. I have had must better luck with hostgator. Lunarpages sucks.

I don't really get the big deal. It seems to me that they are doing what they want to make money and gain marketing. I can say that I would not do the same but this is America!

SiteGround is a scam. They instituted automatic rebill despite the fact that they never asked me if that was OK. Billed my account for $107 for a year of hosting without sending me any e-mail notifications to my admin. Then, when you attempt to cancel your account, you are rerouted to a LiveChat so they can try and convince you to stay on. Total scam artists. STAY AWAY from SiteGround.

I'll second HostGator. Have had great experiences with them.

This kind of thing is increasingly common at the moment, its started in the debt management industry (or was the first I noticed it) and its just snowballed

If its true its not ethical. Don't understand why I big company needs to do this. If it offers great service, hosting plans and fair price there is no need to do such things.

I've always steered clear of Site Ground. The only ones that I've been happy with are HostGator and BlueHost.

@deniel, I'd have to agree. Not that is just is unethical, it is more of degradation of their site. If they were to do that, and people would find out, it would get them into a lot of trouble.
