Can someone please, please, tell me what was so great about the Knight Rider tv movie? Why on earth would NBC actually consider turning this into a series? Was it really that good? Did I miss something?
I honestly thought it was utter crap. Sure, the car was pretty neat, but you need more than a cool car to make a show work. And this 'pilot' didn't have anything more to give.
Let me list the problems I had with the episode.
- The Lead Actor. He was bland. Really, they should have gotten someone with, oh, charisma. Or a woman driver. That would have been different and interesting.
- It was a 2 hour car chase. Nothing more.
- The bad guys. Stereotypical. It was like the writers took out "TV and Movie Bad Guys for Dummies" and just copied right out of it.
- Predictable. Like you didn't see the end coming.
- As bland as the leading man was, the rest of the cast was pretty bland, too.
- You need emotional connections to the characters. Instead, we get a dull car voice and lots of technology. That doesn't cut it
I'll admit I did get a little excited when the opening music came on. The Knight Rider theme is classic. But from then on it went downhill fast. And I've seen some of the original episodes, but I honestly can't remember a damn thing about them. I think I remember David Hasselhof sliding on the hood of KITT once or twice; nothing more comes to mind.
And NBC is going to turn this into a series.
A series about a guy who drives a car and fights terrorists.
It makes the new, now canceled, Bionic Woman look pretty damn good, doesn't it?
