It seems that production may get underway on a Battlestar Galactica prequel called Caprica. It will be set 50 years before the events in Galactica and be more of a traditional drama instead of a science fiction series. (source)
I honestly never liked this idea for a series. I like the Galactica universe, but the universe where all hell broke loose and humanity is on the run. And setting this series 50 years in the past just seems stale.
I'd much prefer a tv show based on Kobol, the home planet of mankind that the 13 colonies fled 3000 years ago. Why did they leave? What went wrong? What were they like? Now that's interesting to me.
And they'll be no BSG movie, either. That I can live with. Even though the final season is about to begin, I hope they tie everything together and give us a satisfying ending instead of leaving things open for a new movie franchise.
