Packt Publishing 2007 Nominations Open

The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award is designed to encourage, support, recognize and reward an Open Source Content Management System (CMS) that has been selected by a panel of judges and visitors to www.PacktPub.com.

I guess it's that time again! Nominations are open until August 31st and systems can be nominated in the following categories:

  • Overall Winner
  • Most Promising Open Source CMS
  • Best Open Source PHP CMS
  • Best Other Open Source CMS
  • Best Social Networking CMS

For Overall Winner I nominated Drupal. Drupal, in some respects, is much more forward thinking than others. (Like Wordpress.) Drupal is what a content management system should be. Mostly. I still have problems with it. Like theming. I can't stand creating themes with Drupal. (Which is why I don't use it.)

For Most Promising (which is for systems that had their first release in the last 2 years) I nominated Habari. Sure, it's only had one development release, and it's extremely buggy, but it has a lot of potential. (And if they add categories instead of just tags, I'm (most likely) so there...)

Thanks for the nomination!

I don't expect that we'll add categories as a core feature of Habari -- we spent quite a lot of time arguing the issue that I think we're all content with only tags. That said, I'm sure a plugin could easily provide formal hierarchical categorization. If it's something you need/want, speak up on the mailing list!
