I recently tried Serendipity Blogging software (s9y.org). I liked it a lot. It was simple to use, nice administrative backend (much nicer than wordpress) and really good support.

But if you're looking for blogging systems, when you check out Wordpress, Nucleus, b2evolution, also add Serendipity to your list. It's definitely worth a look.
