So You Think You Can Dance Premiers May 22

Finally! May 22nd on Fox!

So You Think You Can Dance really is my favorite tv 'reality' show. (Okay, it's a competition show and not a 'reality' show, but it seems that people in the 'biz' can't differentiate between the two.)

Why do I enjoy it so much? Two reasons - 1) the people who actually make it to the competition are talented, and 2) they actually do something and not just stand there and sing.

In my mind, American Idol is worthless. People stand and try to sing. (Or as Jimmy Kimmel says, it's karaoke night.) It's 15 minutes of fame for most, and only a few contestants are memorable. Plus, if you don't actually win, you're better off.

Dancing With The Stars is okay. But it does seem like the same show over and over.

America's Got Talent is also just okay. I like the fact that its a call-back to the Vaudeville and the variety show days of old. And having someone win who wasn't a dancer or a singer was definitely a plus - I'm referring to Terry Fator, the ventriloquist of course!

But So You Think You Can Dance is different. It's kids (young adults) who have talent and actually do something of their own on the stage. They don't rehash (and murder) old songs; they work with a professional so brings a unique product to the viewers.

And let's face it, any of us can try to sing; how many of us can really dance like what we see on the show?

Hey everyone I just heard about this event and thought I would pass along the info. To kick of the new season of SYTYCD, FOX is having a Dance Dance Revolution event on Monday May 19, 2008 at 3pm at the Nokia Theatre in downtown LA. They are going to have a ton of DDR mats out, and are trying to get the most people to play DDR at one time. Anyone can participate and they are giving out prizes like TVs, video games and other electronics. Could be fun!

I went to it, and we (as a group) broke the Guinness Book of World Records' record for most people dancing DDR at once: 111 people for 9 minutes 56 seconds. (We also got to keep the mats!)

I love So You Think You Can Dance. But I think Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew is a lot better. When I learned about Jabbawockeez from the first season, I was just hooked onto the show.

ABDC is way more dynamic than SYTCD. But those 2 are among my favorite reality competition shows.
