It's January and the holiday TV repeats are over... mostly. The writer's strike is still on, and that means many of the shows that began in the fall wont be back on for a while, save a few new episodes here and there. (Except for soap operas and animated shows.)
The networks were smart these past few months. They knew the writer's strike was looming so the networks saved some of their series for the winter. And they also didn't cancel many of the shows that normally would have been canceled early on (like Moonlight or Journeyman.) Of course, with the new shows debuting over the next few weeks, we also get new reality shows, such as that Dance Wars thing and Celebrity Apprentice. I guess we have to take the good with the bad.
So this winter, these shows are what I'm looking forward to...
Can't Miss!
Lost. Thursday, January 31st at 9pm Pacific, there's no doubt where I'll be; sitting in front of my TV probably confused as ever! Sure, this season may only have 8 episodes due to the writer's strike, but I'll definitely be watching this!
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Terminator 2 is one of my all time favorite movies. And I was extremely disappointed that they followed that movie with the forgetful Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. But I'm pretty sure that this show resets the franchise and negates that third movie. Unfortunately it has Thomas Dekker as John Connor. Unfortunate in that the actor has asshole written all over him. But I can look past that, and the show is about John's mother, Lena Headey, after all!
Prison Break. Yes, I like this third season. Didn't care at all for the first two. But I am enjoying the Sona Experience.
If I had Cable....
Alas, I don't have cable, but if I did, I'd make sure I checked out the second season of The Tudors. I'd also check to see if Stargate:Atlantis stopped being a carbon copy of Stargate:SG:1. But since the Replicators are still around, I don't have much hope about that.
Battlestar Galactica is (last I heard about) slated for a fourth (and final) season premier in May, which puts it in Spring, but I thought I should mention it. (Can't mention BG too often!)
What I'll be Missing
American Idol. This show has run its course. Jordan Sparks? Idol? Come on. Sure, the auditions are fun (and painful) to watch, but the rest of the competition... not so much.
Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann. Nothing appealing about this show.
Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle. Like Womens Murder Club, they're shows that aren't tailored for guys.
Law & Order. Sure, Jeremy Sisto makes a great addition, but nothing else about this franchise appeals to me. SVU has done downhill fast, and CI is just too weird. (I did catch the abduction episode last week and all I could think about was how Jeremy Sisto did something similar in the defunct show Kidnapped last year. Deja Vu.
Jericho. This show is back for seven final episodes, but I couldn't get into the first batch.
Eli Stone. Guy has visions of George Michael. That says enough for me.
Welcome to the Captain. James Tambor is great, but after Arrested Development his shows haven't been.
Medium. Like Ghost Whisperer I just never got into this show.
