So I watched the two hour Grey's Anatomy episode (The Other Side of this Life) which served as a pilot for a new spin-off starring Kate Walsh (Dr. Montgomery).
And I really can't say that I liked it.
Sure, the cast was hot, but the writing on the episode (which was written by Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes) was forced and pretentious.
Dr. Montgomery leaves Seattle Grace for some personal time and visits some old friends who started a practice (a Private Practice no less) in California. We the viewers had to meet the new cast (of a show that isn't officially a show) and but also like them. It was like going to a dinner party and having the host bring you to a group of people you don't know and told that these were your best friends now. Forced.
(Nothing against the cast. They were fine. It's how they were introduced to us that I have a problem with. After all, this is Grey's Anatomy.)
But the show will be picked up. ABC isn't stupid. They'll tweak it and next fall we'll get to see Dr. Montgomery every week.
Another thing: The proposed title. I don't like it. I think Oceanside would be better than Private Practice.
